Xterra is seeking licensed clinical psychologists (PhD or PsyD) to serve as IMO Reviewers on veteran disability claims. In this role you will bring mental health expertise to record review, completing mental health Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and producing Independent Medical Opinions (IMOs) and nexus letters for VA review.
Key Responsibilities
Record Review
● Review medical records, service history, and prior evaluations for each veteran claim.
● Provide authoritative opinions that reflect current clinical standards and the VA evidentiary framework.
Opinions, DBQs & Nexus Letters
● Complete and sign mental health DBQs.
● Prepare mental health Independent Medical Opinions (IMOs) grounded in your clinical expertise.
● Author nexus letters, including for PTSD, establishing the link between a condition and military service with rigorous, well-reasoned clinical support.
Qualifications
Required
● Clinical psychologist with a PhD or PsyD.
● Active psychologist license in any state (no specific state required).
● Active NPI, and agreement to list Xterra Health (Salem, OH) as a practice location on your NPI record.
● Ability to complete and sign mental health DBQs.
● Ability to write mental health medical opinions and nexus letters, including for PTSD.
● Agreement up front to follow company policies.
● Signed acknowledgment to recuse from any C&P exam on a veteran for whom you wrote an opinion or DBQ (applies to current VA employees and C&P examiners).
● Clearance on the federal exclusion list (OIG LEIE).
● Strong clinical writing and analytical skills.
Compensation & Coverage
● Pay: $143 per IMO/nexus letter (per-task basis)
● Engagement: 1099 independent contractor; minimum of 5 hours/week
