This role provides after-hours virtual oncology triage and urgent symptom assessment for adults with cancer, using phone, video, text, and a proprietary care platform during nights, weekends, and holidays. The clinician determines urgency, offers direct management when appropriate, recommends next-day follow-up, or refers members for emergent in-person evaluation. Work is part-time and remote, with close collaboration across nursing, non-clinical, and physician teams in a value-based, tech-enabled care model.
Key Responsibilities
- Answer inbound clinical calls and assess symptom severity and clinical urgency.
- Provide telephonic or synchronous audio/video care during non-business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Triages members to direct management, next-day appointments, or emergent in-person evaluation as indicated.
- Document encounters, place orders, and schedule follow-up tasks in Thyme Care and the EHR.
- Deliver member-centered, trauma-informed, evidence-based care aligned with clinical guidelines and policies.
- Collaborate with RNs, non-clinical staff, and physicians on escalations and care coordination.
- Support provider escalations for nursing staff on Saturdays.
Required
- Nurse Practitioner licensure to practice with an unrestricted compact RN and APN license in eligible states.
- At least 3 years of NP experience.
- At least 2 years of adult oncology experience with urgent care responsibilities.
- At least 1 year of telehealth experience.
- Willingness to obtain additional state licenses as needed.
Preferred
- Experience in a startup or tech-forward company.
- Comfort using video chat, Google Suite, Slack, electronic health records, and other new technologies.
