This part-time registered nurse role focuses on pre- and post-procedure care for patients receiving abortion and family planning services, with an emphasis on recovery room monitoring, medication administration, and patient education. The work also includes support for daytime and after-hours emergency calls, in-person informed consent workflows, and coordination with clinicians to respond to patient needs. Care is delivered in a clinic setting within a highly structured protocol-driven environment that centers inclusive, non-judgmental reproductive healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care in the recovery room for patients undergoing abortion procedures.
- Monitor patients before and after procedures, including vital signs and signs of post-abortion complications.
- Administer medications per provider orders and maintain controlled substance logs.
- Deliver verbal and written aftercare instructions, including birth control information and follow-up guidance.
- Educate patients on reproductive and sexual health topics, including contraception, pregnancy options, STI/HIV, and safer sex.
- Document care accurately in patient charts, logs, and the EHR, including required signatures and initials.
- Triage daytime and after-hours emergency calls, consult with clinicians as needed, and document interactions.
- Assist with in-person consent workflows, scheduling support, inventory management, and routine quality assurance tasks.
Required
- Active RN license in Virginia or a compact member state.
- BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
- ACLS certification within 90 days of hire.
- Ability to work part-time scheduled clinical shifts.
- Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

- Experience in reproductive health, abortion care, or family planning.
