This role focuses on remote medical record review for long-term care cases, evaluating whether patient care decisions met the applicable standard of care. The work centers on peer review and quality management for VA medical facilities rather than direct clinical visits. Case review is completed independently with secure electronic tools and written findings.
Key Responsibilities
- Review medical records in the VA electronic medical record system.
- Evaluate clinical decisions and actions from specific patient encounters against the standard of care.
- Complete written case reviews using Microsoft Word.
- Use secure email systems to receive encrypted case communications.
- Accept or decline assigned cases within 24 hours.
- Submit accepted reviews within three to five business days.
- Complete expedited reviews within 24 hours when needed.
- Complete online training and maintain readiness for independent case review.
Required
- Active MD or DO license in any U.S. state.
- Board certification in Long-Term Care.
- At least five years of Long-Term Care experience after training.
- National Provider Identifier (NPI) number.
- At least 20 hours of direct patient care per month.
- Must not be a VA employee, active-duty military member, or currently provide care in a military facility.
