Adult physical medicine & rehabilitation physician needed to perform independent, evidence-based external peer reviews of clinical cases remotely on an ad hoc 1099 contractor basis. The work centers on evaluating medical necessity and quality of care for cases within the reviewer’s specialty, with preference for TBI experience or additional Brain Injury board certification. Reviews are completed using provided IT systems, with an emphasis on objective, unbiased determinations and timely submission.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct objective peer reviews of clinical cases within physical medicine & rehabilitation.
- Evaluate medical necessity and quality of care against current standards of practice.
- Make final determinations on reviewed cases based on evidence and clinical guidelines.
- Submit completed reviews in a timely and professional manner using provided IT systems.
- Apply specialty expertise to cases involving TBI and related brain injury conditions when applicable.
- Ensure decisions remain fair, unbiased, and aligned with evidence-based practice.
Required
- Hold an unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state.
- Be board certified through an ABMS-, AOA-, or other nationally recognized board, if applicable.
- Have at least 5 years of full-time equivalent direct clinical care experience.
- Have provided direct clinical care within the past 3 years.
- Be actively engaged in direct or virtual patient care for at least 20 hours per week.
- Be knowledgeable about the condition, treatment, or procedure under review and able to manage that clinical area.
Preferred
- Have adult physical medicine & rehabilitation experience with TBI or brain injury cases.
- Hold additional Brain Injury board certification.
- Have experience with evidence-based guidelines and novel treatments in the area under review.
- Have active hospital medical staff privileges, if applicable.
