The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, and therapeutic support for patients enrolled in PHP and IOP programs. This role focuses on assessment, treatment planning, prescribing, and ongoing follow-up for individuals with behavioral health needs in a structured outpatient setting. The clinician works closely with psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and other team members, and may also participate in supervision activities depending on licensure and regulatory eligibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations and intake assessments for patients in PHP and IOP programs.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on psychiatric assessment findings.
- Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications, monitoring effectiveness and side effects.
- Provide ongoing medication management and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Coordinate care with therapists, social workers, psychiatrists, and other team members.
- Provide crisis intervention and support within the PHP/IOP setting.
- Participate in clinical team meetings, case reviews, and treatment planning discussions.
- Document patient interactions and treatment in accordance with agency policies and regulatory requirements.
- Educate patients and families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and medication management.
- Maintain compliance with legal and ethical standards for psychiatric services.
Required
- Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited program.
- Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
- Current, unrestricted state licensure as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
- At least 1 year of experience prescribing medication.
- Strong knowledge of mental health diagnoses, psychiatric medications, and treatment modalities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
Preferred
- Experience in a behavioral health setting, including PHP and/or IOP.
