Description

Provide orthopedic expert consultation, record review, independent medical examinations, and testimony for criminal and civil legal cases involving trauma, assault injuries, accident-related orthopedic damage, and other injury patterns. The work is primarily remote and flexible, with occasional travel for examinations or testimony and the need to explain complex medical findings clearly for attorneys, judges, and juries. This independent contractor role also includes written reporting, case strategy consultation, and collaboration with both prosecution and defense teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review medical records, imaging studies, and related documentation for orthopedic cases.
  • Provide written expert opinions and comprehensive reports based on record review and examination findings.
  • Conduct independent medical examinations of plaintiffs and defendants as requested.
  • Provide testimony at depositions, trials, and other legal proceedings by phone, video, or in person.
  • Consult with attorneys on medical interpretation, injury mechanism, and case strategy.
  • Maintain detailed time records and accurate invoices according to company procedures.
  • Stay current with orthopedic literature, research, and clinical developments relevant to forensic review.
  • Travel out of state on short notice when required for testimony or examinations.
Required
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Board certification in Orthopedic Surgery.
  • Current unrestricted medical license in good standing.
  • At least 5 years of clinical experience in orthopedic surgery.
  • Ability to maintain required certifications and continuing education.
  • Ability to communicate complex medical concepts in clear, layperson-friendly language.
Preferred
  • Previous expert witness experience.
  • Previous forensic consultation experience.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and computer systems.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines without oversight.
