Description

Provides medical review and consultation on whether active-duty service members meet retention, deployment, and assignment standards, including MEB and RILO MEB cases, medical assignment limitation codes, med hold, and elective surgery requests. The work centers on interpreting clinical documentation and recommending medical administrative dispositions that affect continued service, separation, retirement, or transfer decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct medical standards reviews to recommend fitness for continued military service.
  • Evaluate clinical notes and medical histories to determine impact on deployability, assignment, and retention.
  • Provide consultation to military medical staff, commanders, assignments personnel, and Physical Evaluation Board stakeholders.
  • Review and process MEB and RILO MEB cases, including recommendations for assignment limitation codes.
  • Recommend approval or disapproval of med hold and elective surgery requests using applicable Air Force and DoD guidance.
  • Prepare disposition recommendations and supporting documentation with required accuracy, timeliness, and privacy protections.
  • Support responses to high-level inquiries and maintain required workload and government record documentation.
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Active valid state or federal license or certificate to practice as a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.
  • Board certification from the American Board of Medical Specialties, or NP certification from AANP/ANCC, or NCCPA certification.
  • At least 5 years of experience in military medical practice.
  • At least 5 years of experience with military medical standards patient assessments and MEB narratives.
  • At least 5 years of experience with active-duty military physical profiling.
  • At least 6 months of experience in deployment-related work or field conditions.
Preferred
  • Experience processing military deployment limitation waivers.
  • Experience working directly with the DoD Disability Evaluation System.
  • Experience within the United States Air Force system.
  • Board certification in an adult primary care specialty.
