This role focuses on independent medical-legal review of medical records, with attention to clinical questions, medical necessity, CPT coding, and usual and customary charges in Texas. The reviewer supports counter-affidavit work and may also provide deposition or trial testimony. The work is contract-based and case assignments are tailored to individual availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed chart and medical record reviews for legal and insurance-related cases.
- Address clinical concerns, medical necessity, and fee or charge questions in the counter-affidavit process.
- Analyze CPT code application alongside usual and customary rates and state fee schedules.
- Provide counter-affidavits and supporting documentation in a timely manner.
- Supply any review criteria used and respond to requests for clarification or addenda as needed.
- Participate in deposition and trial expert work when requested.
Required
- Clinician with expertise in medical review and Texas practice standards related to charges and fees.
- Experience reviewing medical records and completing counter-affidavit or similar legal review work.
- Strong working knowledge of CPT coding and the relationship between codes, rates, and fee schedules.
- Ability to accept cases and return completed work by the specified due date and time.
Preferred
- Prior counter-affidavit, testimony, or deposition experience.
- Experience serving as a legal or expert witness reviewer.
