Conduct independent medical exams and disability-related peer reviews for internal medicine cases, evaluating the medical appropriateness of care and responding to client questions using evidence-based criteria. Work is case-based and can be scheduled within a standard Monday-to-Friday framework, with cases assigned in your jurisdiction or area.
Key Responsibilities
- Review medical records and address each client question using state-mandated or nationally recognized evidence-based criteria.
- Provide clear, concise rationales with supporting documentation for each determination.
- Conduct independent medical exams in a professional, safe setting.
- Return completed cases by the required due date and time.
- Use current state, national, and professional guidelines and peer-reviewed literature to support objective decision-making.
- Provide copies of criteria used in reviews with the report in a timely manner.
- Participate in orientation, training, quality assurance, and audit or regulatory review activities as needed.
- Respond to depositions, court appearances, complaints, or other assigned case-related matters when required.
Required
- Board certification in Internal Medicine.
- Active state license and any required special certifications or credentials.
- Ability to perform IMEs and peer reviews in the assigned jurisdiction or area.
Preferred
- Experience with independent medical exams or utilization review/peer review work.
- Familiarity with evidence-based guidelines, URAC standards, and disability claim reviews.
