Reviews medical records for orthopedic surgery cases and provides advisory opinions on medical necessity, CPT coding, and usual and customary charges, with a focus on Texas counter-affidavit, deposition, and trial support. Work is contract-based and case volume is set to fit the physician’s schedule, with no treatment or doctor-patient relationship established. The role includes responding to client questions, providing clarification or addenda when needed, and using a streamlined review workflow with prepped cases and transcription support.
Key Responsibilities
- Review medical records and address clinical questions, medical necessity, and charge-related concerns.
- Complete counter-affidavit reports that answer all questions and clinical concerns in a timely manner.
- Evaluate CPT code application alongside usual and customary rates and Texas state fee schedules.
- Provide copies of any criteria used in the review with the report.
- Return cases by the assigned due date and time.
- Respond to client questions and provide clarification or addenda as needed.
- Support deposition and trial testimony when required.
Required
- Active Texas medical license.
- Active clinical practice.
- Board certification in Orthopedic Surgery.
- Experience analyzing CPT codes, usual and customary rates, and fee schedules.
Preferred
- Experience with counter-affidavit, testimony, or deposition work.
- Prior experience in Independent Medical Exams or physician advisor services.
