Physicians perform independent medical examinations and peer reviews for Longshore workers’ compensation cases, providing objective, defensible medical opinions based on in-person exams and record review. The work is case-based and advisory only, with a focus on specialties such as orthopedics, audiology, otolaryngology, and psychiatry, though physicians with prior Longshore experience in other specialties may also be considered. Assignments are independent contractor based and can be scheduled flexibly around availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-person independent medical examinations for Longshore cases
- Perform comprehensive peer reviews of medical records
- Provide detailed, timely written reports
- Maintain compliance with LHWCA standards and documentation requirements
- Manage case timelines independently
Required
- Active, unrestricted medical license
- US board certification or board eligibility in orthopedics, audiology, otolaryngology, psychiatry, or a related specialty
- AMA 6th Edition certification or willingness to become certified
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills
Preferred
- Prior Longshore IME and/or peer review experience
- Experience completing 30+ Longshore IMEs and/or peer reviews
- Prior work with TPAs, insurance carriers, employers, or IME vendors
- Multi-state Longshore case experience
