This physician reviewer role focuses on medical record review for legal and insurance-related cases, with emphasis on medical necessity, usual and customary charges, and Texas counter-affidavit work. The work also includes expert witness support, including deposition and trial testimony when needed. Cases are advisory only and do not involve patient treatment or a doctor-patient relationship.
Key Responsibilities
- Review medical records and address clinical questions related to treatment and utilization.
- Evaluate medical necessity of care and charges/fees using clinical expertise and Texas standards.
- Prepare counter-affidavits and respond to each question, including clinical and billing concerns.
- Provide expert witness support for deposition and trial when requested.
- Submit review criteria and supporting documentation with reports in a timely manner.
- Return cases by the assigned due date and time.
- Respond to client questions, clarification requests, and addenda as needed.
Required
- Texas medical license.
- Board certification.
- Clinical expertise in reviewing medical necessity, CPT coding, and usual/customary rates.
- Ability to work on a 1099 contract basis.
Preferred
- Experience with counter-affidavit work.
- Experience with testimony, deposition, or expert witness services.
- Familiarity with Texas fee schedules and charge norms.
