This role reviews medical records for Texas counter-affidavit, expert witness, and independent medical exam-related requests, focusing on medical necessity, usual and customary charges, and CPT/code analysis. The work is advisory only and does not involve treatment or a doctor-patient relationship. Cases are accepted on a contract basis with a schedule that fits the clinician’s availability, and may include deposition or trial testimony support.
Key Responsibilities
- Review medical records and address clinical questions, medical necessity, and usual and customary charges.
- Complete counter-affidavits that respond to all clinical concerns and fee-related questions.
- Evaluate CPT coding in relation to Texas practice standards, state fee schedules, and customary charges.
- Provide advisory opinions for legal services IME and expert witness requests.
- Support deposition and trial testimony when needed.
- Submit reports, criteria used in the review, and any addenda by the required deadline.
- Respond to client questions and clarification requests as assigned.
Required
- Texas medical license.
- Board certification.
- Ability to work as an independent contract reviewer on a case-by-case basis.
- Experience reviewing medical records and preparing written medical opinions.
Preferred
- Experience with counter-affidavit, testimony, or deposition work.
- Experience analyzing CPT codes, usual and customary rates, and state fee schedules.
- Background in pain medicine or related clinical expertise.
