Provide independent medical record reviews and advisory opinions for legal and medical necessity questions, with emphasis on Texas counter-affidavit work, expert witness support, and analysis of treatment charges and CPT coding. This work is advisory only and does not involve treatment or a doctor-patient relationship. Cases are prepped in advance, and the role can be scheduled around the clinician’s availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct medical record reviews and address clinical questions, medical necessity, and usual and customary charges for services.
- Complete counter-affidavits and support expert witness, deposition, and trial testimony requests as needed.
- Analyze CPT code application, state fee schedules, and charge reasonableness in the context of Texas practice standards.
- Provide timely written reports, supporting criteria, addenda, and clarifications when requested.
- Return cases by the specified due date and time.
- Respond to client questions and other case-related follow-up as assigned.
Required
- Texas medical license.
- Board certification.
- Clinical expertise relevant to medical record review and physician advisory work.
- Ability to work on a contract 1099 basis.
Preferred
- Experience with counter-affidavit, testimony, and deposition work.
- Experience analyzing CPT codes, usual and customary rates, and state fee schedules.
- Background in independent medical exams or utilization review/medical necessity review.
