This role centers on independent medical record review for Texas counter-affidavit and expert witness matters, with attention to medical necessity, CPT coding, usual and customary charges, and state fee schedules. The work is advisory only and may include deposition and trial testimony support. Cases are assigned on a contract basis, allowing the physician to choose volume around an individual schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Review medical records and address clinical questions related to treatment, medical necessity, and charges
- Support the Texas counter-affidavit process and provide expert opinions for legal matters
- Evaluate CPT coding, usual and customary rates, and state fee schedule issues
- Provide deposition and trial testimony support when needed
- Return completed cases by the required due date and time
- Provide addenda, clarification, and responses to client questions as needed
- Submit any criteria used in the review with the report
Required
- Texas medical license
- Board certification
- Physician experience reviewing medical records and preparing formal advisory opinions
- Ability to work on a contract 1099 basis
Preferred
- Experience with counter-affidavit, testimony, or deposition work
- Experience analyzing CPT codes and fee schedules
- Background in medical necessity or utilization review
- Familiarity with independent medical exam or physician advisor work
