Physicians conduct remote chart and case reviews to assess medical necessity, appropriateness, and quality of care for military members and their families. The work centers on utilization review, appeals, hearings, and quality or standard-of-care concerns, with written determinations based on established clinical criteria. This is an independent, contract-based role that emphasizes objective review, clinical integrity, and strong written communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent remote case reviews for medical necessity, appropriateness, and quality of care.
- Provide evidence-based written determinations using established clinical guidelines and review criteria.
- Review utilization management cases, appeals, hearings, and quality-of-care or standard-of-care concerns.
- Uphold clinical neutrality, objectivity, and documentation standards throughout the review process.
- Participate in case assignment and turnaround workflows based on specialty and availability.
- Coordinate securely and independently within a remote review environment.
Required
- MD or DO with an active, unrestricted U.S. medical license.
- Board certified in a specialty recognized by ABMS or AOA.
- At least 5 years of clinical experience in the specialty.
- Currently practicing and seeing patients an average of at least 20 hours per week.
- Ability to complete reviews independently in a secure remote setting.
Preferred
- Experience with QIO, peer review, utilization review, or appeals work.
- Familiarity with military or federal healthcare programs such as TRICARE or Medicare.
- Previous experience with legal, regulatory, or other structured case reviews.
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail.
