Conduct independent, evidence-based medical case reviews for veterans’ care, focusing on quality of care, timeliness, appropriateness, and adherence to standards. Review complex specialty cases to identify improvement opportunities and provide impartial medical advisory opinions. This is a fully remote, part-time role with flexible case completion, suited to experienced physicians who maintain active clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct objective medical case reviews using standardized assessment criteria
- Evaluate the timeliness and appropriateness of care provided
- Identify quality improvement opportunities in reviewed cases
- Assess medical decision-making and compliance with best practices
- Provide expert medical opinions on complex clinical scenarios
- Review non-standardized performance improvement cases as assigned
Required
- Active, unrestricted physician license in a U.S. state or territory
- Board certification in an American Board of Medical Specialties-recognized specialty
- At least 5 years of clinical experience in the specialty
- At least 2 years of recent clinical practice relevant to case reviews
- Current direct patient care activity of at least 20 clinical hours per month
- Hospital privileges in the physician’s specialty
- Fluent English reading and writing skills
Preferred
- Experience in one of the listed specialties, such as cardiology, transplant-related specialties, surgery, nephrology, neurosurgery, radiology, or orthopedics
- Prior experience with quality review, utilization review, or peer review work
- Background in reviewing complex or high-acuity specialty cases
