Conduct independent medical case reviews for veterans’ care, focusing on quality of care, timeliness, appropriateness, and adherence to standards. Review complex gastroenterology and hepatology cases, including ERCP, hepatology, and transplant-qualified hepatology scenarios, from an impartial, evidence-based perspective. This is a fully remote, part-time role with flexible scheduling to complete cases within a set turnaround window.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct objective medical case audits using standardized assessment criteria.
- Evaluate the timeliness and appropriateness of care provided.
- Identify quality improvement opportunities and potential deviations from best practices.
- Review cases initiated for non-standardized performance improvement reasons.
- Assess medical decision-making in specialty cases.
- Provide expert medical opinions on complex clinical scenarios.
- Support care quality review for Department of Veterans Affairs cases.
Required
- MD or DO with an active, unrestricted physician license in a U.S. state or territory.
- Board certification in a specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
- At least 5 years of clinical experience in the physician’s specialty.
- At least 2 years of recent clinical practice relevant to case review work.
- Active direct patient care engagement of at least 20 clinical hours per month.
- Hospital privileges in the physician’s specialty.
- Fluent English reading and writing skills.
Preferred
- Gastroenterology or hepatology specialty training.
- ERCP capability, if applying in gastroenterology.
- Transplant-qualified hepatology experience, if applying in hepatology.
