Review medical cases for the Department of Veterans Affairs in a fully remote, part-time role focused on quality assessment, appropriateness of care, and medical decision-making. Work is centered on independent, evidence-based review of clinical records rather than direct patient visits, with flexibility to complete cases on your own schedule. The role is open to physicians in cardiology and select cardiology subspecialties who remain actively engaged in clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct objective medical case reviews using standardized assessment criteria.
- Evaluate the timeliness and appropriateness of care provided.
- Identify quality improvement opportunities based on case findings.
- Review cases initiated for non-standardized performance improvement reasons.
- Assess medical decision-making and alignment with best practices.
- Provide impartial, evidence-based medical opinions on complex clinical scenarios.
Required
- Active, unrestricted physician license in a U.S. state or territory.
- Board certification in a specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
- At least 5 years of clinical experience in the physician’s specialty.
- At least 2 years of recent clinical practice relevant to case review work.
- Current direct patient care activity of at least 20 clinical hours per month.
- Hospital privileges in the physician’s specialty.
- Strong English reading and writing skills.
Preferred
- Cardiology specialty experience.
- Experience in invasive cardiology.
- Experience with transplant-qualified cardiology cases.
