This clinician provides virtual, pediatric metabolic health care for adolescents with elevated BMI, including intake, lab review, individualized weight-management planning, and ongoing follow-up. The role includes prescribing and managing GLP-1 therapy when appropriate, alongside nutrition and behavioral support for teens and their families. Care is delivered within a multidisciplinary, physician-supervised telehealth model with support from dietitians, exercise specialists, and health coaches.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive intake evaluations for adolescents entering the program, including history, risk factors, and eligibility review.
- Order and review labs, and escalate results that fall outside program guardrails.
- Design individualized care plans with patients and families based on the teen’s goals and clinical picture.
- Prescribe and manage GLP-1 therapy when clinically appropriate and within prescriptive authority.
- Provide ongoing monitoring visits, dose management, side-effect management, safety monitoring, and adherence support.
- Coordinate care with physicians, nurse practitioners, registered dietitians, and health coaches to maintain one cohesive plan.
- Participate in escalation pathways and surface complex or ambiguous cases to the supervising physician.
- Use program protocols and collaborative/supervisory processes within the scope of state licensure.
Required
- Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner (APRN) license in good standing.
- National board certification appropriate for adolescent care, such as FNP-BC, FNP-C, or PNP-PC.
- Active prescriptive authority.
- Willingness to obtain and maintain licensure and prescriptive authority in the states where the program operates.
- Comfort caring for adolescents and their families.
- Strong written communication and comfort working in an asynchronous, distributed telehealth team under physician oversight.
Preferred
- Obesity-medicine certification for advanced practice providers, or a clear path to obtain it.
- Prior experience prescribing or managing GLP-1 therapy.
- Prior telehealth experience.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary model with registered dietitians, behavioral health clinicians, and health coaches.
- Multi-state licensure, or willingness to pursue it.
- Bilingual Spanish/English skills or experience serving linguistically diverse pediatric populations.
